Meopham Art Group was founded in 1985 by the late Eric Bugg.
Main activities - Painting & Drawing.
Full membership of the club is 36 (currently reduced by circumstances to 30) from residents of Meopham and surrounding areas; there is currently a waiting list to join the Group and applicants of all abilities are welcome to join; any member who fails to attend at least 5 indoor meetings during a year shall be deemed to have left the Group.
Annual subscription - currently £40 per member.
September to May
Weekly 2-3 hour indoor sessions (untutored) are held on Thursday afternoons at Culverstone Communithy Centre (access to Hall by members from 1.00pm to 4.00pm).
A winter programme of projects is drawn up for these sessions; during the course of the winter programme the Group endeavours to arrange a limited number of demonstrations/talks given by invited professional artists. Non-member guests are invited to attend these events for the payment of a small fee.
May to September
A weekly summer outdoor programme is organised to give members the opportunity to practise sketching "en plein air". These meetings are held at various venues in Kent and neighbouring counties. The majority of meetings are held on Thursday afternoons from 2.00pm, interspersed with occasional full day sessions from 10.00am. Pickup point in the car park at the Baptist Church of St John, Wrotham Road, Meopham.
- Lunch in March at a pre-booked venue.
- Picnic in August (weather permitting).
- Exhibition. Usually held during a weekend at a time mutually agreed between the
venue owners and the Group.
The Group has an allocated small space in Darenth Valley Hospital to display members' pictures for sale.
The Group also has a lending library of books and DVDs covering a wide range of art related topics.
